Picking a career only because it’s hiring right now is choosing for someone else’s market.

RESILIENCE
Hiring markets turn over in a few years, and whatever is desperate for people when you are seventeen may be quiet by the time you qualify. Choosing purely by today’s demand hands your plan to somebody else’s business cycle, while you are the one sitting in the training. Knowing what is hiring is useful. It is a poor sole reason.
Write down two reasons for the direction you are weighing up, and see whether either survives without the hiring news. Talk to somebody doing the work about what a day is actually like. Aim for the overlap between what pays and what you could stand for years.
