Doing a boring job well is often how you get offered the one that isn’t boring.

Interesting work gets handed to people whose unglamorous work was good, because that is the only evidence anybody has to go on. Doing a dull task properly shows that you do not need a task to be interesting in order to be careful, which is rare in any workplace. Plenty of people visibly do the boring part at half effort and then wonder where the better job went.

Take the most tedious thing in your week and do it to a standard somebody would notice: finished, tidy, on time. Tell nobody you are doing it. Then ask, once, to be let in on something you would rather be learning.
