Owning a bad outcome out loud costs you less than the story you’d have to keep up.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
Admitting something went badly takes one uncomfortable conversation. The alternative is a position you then have to hold: managing what people believe, remembering which version you told to whom, and getting more invested as the gap widens. One of those has a fixed price. The other charges rent for as long as you keep it.
Say the plain version of whatever you are currently softening, to the person who most needs an accurate picture. Lead with the result rather than the reasons. People think more of a straight account of a bad outcome than of a good one they later discover was arranged.
What would it cost you to just say it went wrong?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
