Taking responsibility doesn’t mean beating yourself up. It means fixing what you can.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
Guilt and responsibility feel similar and do opposite work. One keeps the attention on how bad you feel, which demands nothing of anybody, while the other points at the mess and asks which part of it you can still move. People often pick the self-criticism because it resembles accountability without involving any repair.
Where something is on you, write down the one thing you can actually do and do it today, even if it is just a message. Give the apology once, without the long run-up. Then let the matter be the fixing rather than the feeling.
Which mistake could you repair instead of replaying in your head?
