Say your own name the way your family says it. Making it easier for others shouldn’t mean making it smaller.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Smoothing a name down starts as politeness and turns into a small daily edit of yourself. Each time you offer the easier version first, you teach a room that your real name is an inconvenience, and they never learn otherwise because you solved it for them. Most people manage more than you assume once you hand them the real one.

Introduce yourself the way your family says it, once, properly, and let the pause happen. If somebody asks, say it again slowly rather than reaching for a nickname. Keeping it is allowed, and so is choosing a short form because you like it.
