A dry text is usually a busy person, not a verdict on you.

Short replies get read as cold because text strips away everything that would otherwise explain them. In reality somebody was walking, working or answering six people at once, and the brevity is about their afternoon rather than about you. Reading tone into message length produces a story more dramatic and less accurate than the truth. The dull explanation is almost always the right one.
When a reply feels flat, give it the boring interpretation and carry on. If it runs for a week and still bothers you, ask directly instead of studying the pattern. Notice what your own short replies look like from outside.
