Jumping in with “same!” feels like connection. Sometimes it just steals the story they were telling.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Recognizing yourself in somebody’s story is a real impulse with bad timing. Jumping in with your version feels like connection, and from their side the spotlight just moved mid-sentence, before they reached the part they were building toward. Often they never go back to it.

Hold your story for sixty seconds and let them finish theirs. Ask one question first, then offer yours if it still fits. Said afterward, the identical sentence lands as agreement rather than as a change of subject.
