The bravest kid in class might be the one who reads out loud with a stutter. Respect that.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
Reading aloud is mildly unpleasant for most people and genuinely costly for somebody who knows exactly where the sentence will catch. Doing it anyway, in front of the same thirty people, every time it comes round, takes something that does not look like courage from the outside because it is happening in an ordinary classroom. It is still the hardest thing anybody in the room is doing.
Give whoever is reading your attention and your patience, and do not finish their words for them. Wait. And if you are the one reading, taking the time you need is not an imposition on anybody, whatever the silence feels like.
Who does something hard in front of you without being praised?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
