Joining a club alone, without a friend to lean on, is how you make friends who aren’t from your old circle.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

A friend standing beside you is a comfortable exit from everybody else in the room. You talk to them, they talk to you, the hour passes pleasantly and you leave knowing exactly as many people as when you arrived. Turning up alone removes that option, which is uncomfortable for ten minutes and is also the entire mechanism by which you end up with people who have nothing to do with your old circle.

Join one thing without recruiting anybody. Sit beside somebody you do not know and ask them how long they have been coming.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which group would you join if nobody came along with you?
