Firefighters don’t run in blind. They size up the scene first. Brave people still read the room.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
Hesitation and assessment look identical from outside and are nothing alike. One is a stall and the other is three seconds spent finding out where the exits are, what is actually burning and who else is inside. Those seconds are what separate a useful action from becoming a second problem for somebody to deal with. Brave and reckless differ mainly in whether that pause happened.
Give yourself a deliberate beat before acting on anything that matters. Ask what you do not yet know, and whether anybody present knows it already.
When did you rush in without sizing up the situation?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
