Trying out for the solo means risking embarrassment. Not trying means letting someone else decide you couldn’t.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
Not trying feels safe because nothing happens, except that something does happen: a decision gets made about you and you were not the one making it. Somebody else gets the part, partly because the list never had your name on it. Embarrassment is survivable and specific, and it lasts a day or two. Having somebody else conclude you could not do it is quieter and lasts much longer.
Put your name down this week, before you have settled whether you are good enough. Prepare the one piece properly and let the audition answer the question for you.
Which audition have you skipped and then quietly resented?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
