Being the only girl in the robotics club or the only guy in the dance class is a risk. It’s also how rooms change.

Arriving as the only one of something in a room means your presence gets noticed before anything you actually do, which is tiring and says nothing about whether you belong there. The room was shaped by whoever happened to turn up first, and it changes by other people turning up. Somebody has to be that first person, and the second one has a far easier time because of it.

Go, and stay long enough to stop being the new thing in the room. Find one ally inside it, and if you can, bring somebody with you next term.
