Defending someone online is easy. Defending them in person, where they can see you, means more.

A comment costs almost nothing. You are typing at a distance, to an audience, with time to pick your words and the option to delete. Standing next to someone in a hallway while people watch costs you some of your own standing, and that is exactly why it registers with them. Support they can see on your face lands differently than support they read later.

Think of one person you have backed up in a thread this month. Find a way to say the same thing out loud where it counts, even briefly. Sitting down beside them at lunch does more than a dozen replies.
