If a coach crosses a line with a teammate, telling another adult isn’t betrayal. It’s protection.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Loyalty gets used as a way to keep things quiet, and sport is especially good at it, with all its talk of staying in the room. But loyalty to a group does not outrank the safety of a person in it. Telling someone is not betrayal, it is bringing in an adult whose job is exactly this. A teammate who is being harmed is not helped by your discretion.

If something is wrong, tell an adult outside the programme: a parent, a teacher, a safeguarding line. Write down what you saw and when, before the details soften. If you are unsure whether it counts, say it anyway.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which adult would you go to about something you saw?
