Most invention is recognition, noticing that one thing can stand in for another. Nobody found a better bone-breaking sound by looking for bones, they found it by listening to a kitchen with an open mind. That habit works far outside sound, where a cardboard tube becomes a camera rig and a bedsheet becomes a backdrop. What you have is usually enough once you stop insisting it be the obvious tool.

Pick one thing your project needs and solve it with something already in the house. Ask what else that object could be, not what it is for.
