Make the thing first. Worry about whether it’s art later, or never.
CREATIVITY
CREATIVITY
Arguing about categories is a comfortable way to avoid starting. Whether something counts as art is a question other people can answer later, and it has no effect on whether the thing is worth making now. The label arrives after the object exists, never before. Most of the energy spent qualifying yourself would do more good inside a first draft.
Drop the question for a month and finish one thing without describing it to anyone. Call it a project, a bit, a thing you made. If someone asks whether it is art, let them be the one to decide.
Are you deciding what it counts as before making it?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
