Art doesn’t need to be useful to be worth making. You don’t need to be productive to be worth something either.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Usefulness is only one way of being valuable, and a narrow one. A song that solves nothing still changes an afternoon, and that is reason enough for it to exist. The same logic holds for you, because a day that produced nothing measurable was not a day you failed to deserve. Worth is not a tally of output.
Make something this week with no purpose at all and refuse to justify it. Notice whether you feel the pull to call it practice or content instead. Try leaving one afternoon unproductive on purpose and see that nothing collapses.
Does something have to be useful for you to make it?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
