The barre exercises are the same every ballet class on purpose. Repetition is how the body stops needing to think.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Repetition moves a movement out of your thinking and into your body. The point of doing identical exercises every day is to reach the stage where the leg knows what to do without supervision, which frees your attention for everything harder. Variety feels like progress and often prevents it. Sameness is doing something, even on the days it feels like marking time.

Choose one small sequence and do it exactly the same way every day this week. Resist the urge to improve the drill. Then notice how much spare attention you have during it by Friday compared with Monday.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What have you repeated enough that your body took over?
