Some meetings exist because nobody wants ownership of a decision.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Some gatherings exist to distribute responsibility rather than to decide anything. When no individual wants to own the outcome, a meeting spreads it thin enough that nobody carries it, and the discussion can be repeated indefinitely without resolution. Everyone leaves feeling consulted and nothing has been settled.

Before your next recurring meeting, ask who has the authority to decide and whether they are in the room. If no one does, the meeting is not the problem; the missing owner is.
