Burnt the first batch? Bakers don’t close the shop. They turn the oven down and go again.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

A ruined first attempt is information about the oven, not a judgement on the day. Professionals read it as a measurement, too hot or too long or wrong shelf, then adjust and run it again, because the shop has to open. The mistake beginners make is turning one bad result into a verdict and stopping. Most of the skill sits in the second attempt.

Next time something comes out badly, name one variable, change only that, and go again straight away. Resist the urge to review your whole character. Keep a short note of what the change did, so the third attempt is better informed than the second.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

After your last bad attempt, did you adjust or stop?
