Train new hires the way you wish someone had trained you. Then it becomes the shop’s way.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Every workplace has a culture that gets passed on by whoever happens to be teaching, and when nobody decides what it is, the unhelpful version reproduces itself. One person showing patience to somebody on their second day sets a standard that outlasts them both. You are close enough to being new to remember precisely what was missing. That memory is useful while it is still fresh.

The next time somebody starts, tell them the thing nobody told you. Where the awkward stuff is kept, which mistake everybody makes, who to ask. Say once that questions are fine, then prove it when they ask one.
