The dog still needs walking on the day you’re exhausted. That’s what a commitment actually is.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
A commitment only becomes visible on the days you do not feel like it. Anybody will walk the dog when the weather is good and the day went well; the dog still needs walking when you are flattened, and that evening is where the word starts to mean something. Hard days are not interruptions to a commitment, they are the test of it. Nothing more is being asked of you than to go.
When you are exhausted, shrink the thing rather than skipping it. A shorter walk, ten minutes of practice, half the reading. Keeping the chain unbroken matters more than the size of the link.
What did you do for someone else while running empty?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
