Do it right the first time when you can. When you can’t, do it right the second time and learn why.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Getting it right first time is cheaper, and sometimes it is simply not available to you, because you did not yet know enough. The second attempt is where the lesson sits: not only fixing the result but understanding what went wrong, so the same mistake stops being a recurring cost. Redoing something without asking why is just paying twice. One of those passes should teach you something.

When you next have to redo a piece of work, spend two minutes writing down what made the first version fail. Keep those notes where you will see them before the next similar job.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Did you fix it the second time without learning why?
