Reading the Bible a few minutes a day beats binge-reading it once a year out of guilt.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Guilt is a terrible engine and it only ever runs in short bursts. It gets you one enormous effort, usually after a long gap, and then burns out and leaves you further behind than before. Small and regular beats large and occasional in almost everything that forms a person. Four minutes most days quietly outperforms a heroic Sunday afternoon you will not repeat.

Set a stupidly small amount this week, one page or five minutes, at a time already fixed in your day. Attach it to something you already do, like brushing your teeth. Keep it small enough that a bad week cannot kill it.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

How many minutes a day could you honestly keep up?
