Forgiveness doesn’t make you a doormat. Jesus forgave freely and still told people hard truths to their faces.

Forgiving somebody is not the same as having no position. The two get confused constantly, which is why people either hold grudges or let themselves be walked over, as though those were the only options. You can release a person and still tell them plainly what they did, still set a limit, still decline to pretend. Clear speech and genuine forgiveness have always been able to occupy the same room.
