Messing up the same way twice doesn’t use up grace. It just shows you where you need it most.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Repeating a mistake does not draw down a limited account. People imagine a supply that thins out with each use, which means the second time around they stop asking, having decided they are now overdrawn. A repeat is not evidence that you have exhausted anything. It is a fairly reliable map of where your particular weak point is, which is useful information if you can bear to look at it.

Instead of promising never again this week, change one condition around the thing. Who you are with, where you are, what time it happens. Treat it as a location problem rather than a character verdict.
