Purpose rarely announces itself. You notice it looking back at the things you couldn’t stop doing for people.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Purpose is almost always recognised backwards. Nobody gets a clear instruction in advance; what they get is years of being unable to leave certain things alone, and the shape only becomes visible when they look back at it. The kids you kept helping, the problem you kept fixing, the people who kept ending up at your table. That pattern is the evidence, and it accumulates while you are not paying attention.

List five things you have done for other people in the last year without being asked. Look for the repeat rather than the best one.
