If you only give grace to people who’ve earned it, you’re just giving refunds.

Grace given only to people who deserve it is not grace, it is settling up. A refund is what you hand over when somebody has a claim on it, and nobody needs any particular generosity from you to receive what they are already owed. The whole point of the thing is that it goes to people with no case. Otherwise you are just running an accounts department with better vocabulary.

Give it this week to somebody who has not earned it and will not thank you. The sibling, the one who let you down, the person who was rude on Tuesday.
