Church hurt is real. So is the God the church sometimes misrepresents. Don’t confuse the two.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Being damaged by people in a religious setting is a real injury, and nobody gets to wave it away. People are not interchangeable with what they claim to represent, and the gap is where most harm happens. Keeping those separate is not a defence of anyone who hurt you. It stops you losing two things when you only lost one.

If that happened to you, take as long as you need, and leave if you need to. You do not owe anybody a quick recovery or a tidy explanation. When you are ready, say it out loud to someone who will not rush you.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Where were you hurt by people who claimed to speak for God?
