Prayer doesn’t turn God into your assistant. It turns you into His listener.

Asking is where most prayer starts and it is not where it stays. Treating it purely as a request line keeps you at the center and puts the other party in a service role, which is a small arrangement for something people describe as enormous. The shift is in direction. You go in wanting the situation changed and come out with your attention rearranged.

Spend part of this week’s praying not asking for anything. Sit still for two minutes afterward instead of standing straight up, and write down what surfaced.
