Somebody wrote their name in that used book years ago. You’re holding a piece of a stranger’s life. Be careful with it.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Objects outlive the people who owned them, and a name on a flyleaf is the thinnest possible proof of it. Someone bought this, read it, maybe loved it, and then it moved on without them. The book is now partly theirs and partly yours, a shared ownership nobody arranged.

Leave the name in. Add yours underneath with the year if you like, and keep the thing readable for whoever is next. When you pass it on, mention where you got it. That is how an object stays a chain instead of becoming trash.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which second-hand thing of yours belonged to someone real?
