The friend who drives back because you forgot your bag is a friend worth driving back for.
GRATITUDE
GRATITUDE
Small inconveniences accepted without complaint are the clearest test of a friendship. Turning around is twenty minutes, a mild irritation, and no benefit to them whatsoever, which is why it tells you more than any grand statement would. Loyalty mostly shows up at that size.
Keep a mental tally of who turns around for you, and make sure the ledger runs both ways. Be the one who walks back for somebody else’s phone, waits in the cold, or goes the long way home. When it is your turn, do it without the running commentary about the detour.
Who has gone back for you after you messed up?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
