Watch the streetlights click off one morning. It’s the town handing the shift over to the sun.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Towns have mechanics that almost nobody sees running. At a certain point in the morning the lights go out, usually all at once, and the street switches from being lit for you to being lit by the day. It is a handover with no ceremony. It happens every morning and almost never has a witness.

Be up for it once this week, outside, at the right moment rather than watching from a window. Notice how long your eyes take to catch the change. Then start looking for other machinery you move through without seeing, since once you have found one, the rest are easier to spot.
