The ice cream truck song still makes grown adults look up. Some joys never really age out.

A few signals bypass whatever you have decided about yourself. The tune comes down the street and a forty-year-old’s head turns before any thought is involved, because it was wired in at five and never removed. The pleasure is still intact, and the only thing standing between you and it is self-consciousness.
Do one thing this week that you supposedly aged out of: buy the ice cream, go on the swing, watch the cartoon. Notice whether the enjoyment is actually diminished or just embarrassing. Then do it in front of somebody, since that is how you find out which it was.
Which childhood sound still turns your head today?
