Likes cost nothing, so they measure nothing. Turning up when it is inconvenient means somebody moved their own plans, which is the only real currency in a friendship, and it is why one person doing that outweighs a crowd who approve of you from a distance. Approval is plentiful and cheap. Inconvenience accepted on your behalf is rare, and it tells you exactly where you stand.

Work out who your one or two are. Then do the inconvenient thing for them this week rather than the easy one. Go to the event that is far away, call back when it is late, help with the move.
