You can’t make yourself grow taller by staring at the doorframe. Some growth only happens while you’re busy living.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Watching something slow does not make it faster. It only makes the slowness vivid, which is why the doorframe is such a bad place to spend your time: nothing happens there except the daily proof that nothing happened. Height, skill and confidence all accumulate in the background while your attention is somewhere else entirely.

Pick one honest measure and look at it on the first of the month, not hourly. Between those checks, spend your attention on the work rather than the evidence. The surprise comes when you stop standing at the frame long enough for something to change.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Where are you measuring progress instead of getting on with it?
