That astronaut phase taught you to look up. Retire the dream with respect.

CREATIVITY
A dream you were never going to reach can still have done its job. The point of the astronaut years was not the job; it was that something made you look up, read about things far away, and discover that your own curiosity went bigger than the room you were in. That appetite is the part you kept.
When you let one go, name what it gave you before you file it away. Then put that thing somewhere new: the same curiosity in a different subject, the same wanting-to-know aimed at something you can actually get to. Retired is not the same as wasted.
What did your childhood dream teach you before you dropped it?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
