Some family traditions carry wisdom; others merely carry momentum.

Some traditions were solutions to real problems and still are. Others are simply what happened last year and the year before, repeated because stopping would require someone to decide to stop. From the inside these look identical, since both are defended with the same phrase about how the family does things. The difference is whether anyone can say what it is for.

Pick one tradition and ask what it accomplishes now, for the people currently present. If it does something good, keep it and say so out loud. If it does nothing, you can let it quietly not happen.
