An old friend group can be like an old hometown: nice to visit, hard to live in again.

Some places are good to return to and impossible to live in again. A group you grew up in holds a version of you that was never updated, and stepping back in means stepping back into it: the old jokes, the old role, the old limits on what you may say. An afternoon of that is warm; a month of it is a cage.
Keep the visits and stop asking them to be home. See the old group on purpose, with an end time. Put the rest of your effort into people who know the current you.
Which of your friendships are good to visit but not inhabit?
