Family history explains patterns; it does not make them mandatory.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Knowing where a pattern came from is genuinely useful, and it can also become a place to settle. The history explains why you react to conflict a certain way or why money makes you anxious, but explanation is not the same as permission. Once you can see the mechanism, you have something you can work with. The line between understanding and excusing is where change either starts or stops.

After you have explained a pattern to yourself, ask what the next step would be if the explanation were already complete. Then take it. Insight that never turns into behavior tends to harden into an alibi.
