You can come from somewhere proudly without needing to stay psychologically identical to it.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Pride in where you came from does not require staying identical to it. You can love the place, the food, the people, the values, and still hold different politics, a different faith, a different way of raising children. Communities sometimes treat that as defection because sameness feels like loyalty. It is not the same thing.

Be generous and specific about what you carry forward, out loud, so the difference is not the only thing anyone hears. Then hold your own position without arguing for it constantly. Belonging survives disagreement more often than people expect.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What have you kept from home out of pride rather than fit?
