Part of growing up is letting people you love make mistakes you already made.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Having been through something gives you a warning and not a right. The urge to save somebody from a mistake you recognise is affection, and it usually arrives as pressure, which is exactly what gets it ignored. Some lessons do not transfer by being told. They have to be paid for by the person learning them.

Say your piece once, clearly and without a lecture, then stop and stay available. Ask what they want from you instead of assuming it is advice. Being the person they come back to afterwards is worth more than being right in advance.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Whose mistake are you itching to prevent for them?
