Always “running late” sends a message whether you mean it or not: my time matters more than yours.

Lateness stops being about time management once it becomes a pattern. Each instance has an excuse, and the pattern says something the excuses do not: that the other person’s waiting is more acceptable than your rushing. Most people who are habitually late do not mean that at all, which is exactly why it is worth knowing it is what gets heard.
Try leaving fifteen minutes earlier than feels necessary for one week, and see how often that fifteen minutes gets eaten anyway. Work out which step in your routine always overruns. Being early is an unglamorous way of telling people they matter.
