Your name on a paper should mean “I did this.” Protect what it means.

A name functions as a signature even when it is printed in the corner of a worksheet. It makes a claim: that the thinking in here is mine, that you can ask me about any paragraph of it. Every time the claim is false the signature weakens, including on the pieces where it was true, because nobody can tell which is which.
Before you hand something in, check that you could talk through any part of it if asked. Where you had help, say so in a line at the end. A name that reliably means one thing is worth keeping intact.
What should your name on something guarantee to a reader?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
