Some friendships need less contact, not less love.

Frequency is a poor measure of closeness. Some friendships are strongest at a slower rhythm, a few times a year, with genuine depth each time, and forcing more contact than that would strain something that is working. Wanting less of someone’s time is not the same as caring less about them. People have different natural intervals.
Rather than judging a friendship by how often you speak, ask how it feels when you do. If it picks up easily, the interval is fine. Let some relationships run at their own pace without treating the gaps as neglect.
