Some people make excellent companions but poor confidants.
GRATITUDE
GRATITUDE
Some people are wonderful to spend an evening with and cannot be trusted with anything delicate. They repeat things, or they respond to vulnerability with discomfort, or they treat your difficulty as material. Recognizing this is not a downgrade of the friendship; it is a correct assignment of role. The mistake is assuming that enjoyment implies safety.
Before telling someone something that matters, ask what happened the last time you told them something small. Take the serious conversations to the small number of people who have earned them. Everyone else can keep the part of the friendship that works.
Whose company do you enjoy without telling them very much?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
