When they say everyone’s doing it, count. It’s often three people.

LEADERSHIP
Everybody is a word people reach for when they mean a few loud examples. Count the actual names and the crowd usually collapses to three, one of whom is the person telling you about it, and the pressure you felt turns out to have been assembled rather than discovered. Nobody is exactly lying. They are describing the room from the middle of it.
Ask for the names next time, in an ordinary voice, as though you were simply curious. That question deflates most of these conversations with no argument required. Then decide based on whether you want to, which was the only real reason available to you anyway.
Who actually makes up the everyone you keep worrying about?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
