Closing the loop is rare. Say “let me find out,” then actually come back with the answer.

Saying you will find out is easy, and the number of people who come back is startlingly small. Each unanswered question teaches somebody not to bother asking you, and after a few of those you stop hearing about things while still believing you are approachable. Closing the loop is unglamorous and it is most of what being reliable means.
Write down anything you promise to look into, somewhere you will actually see it. Come back with the answer even when the answer is that you could not find out. Doing that twice puts you in a small group.
Which question did you promise to look into and never answer?
