A person should know why they want information before deciding they deserve it.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Before asking for something personal, it is worth checking your own motive. Wanting to help, wanting to be included, wanting material for a story, and simple nosiness all feel similar from the inside and produce very different conversations. Knowing which one is driving you changes whether you ask at all. The question is really about you rather than the information.

Next time you want to ask something personal, pause and name the reason to yourself first. If it is curiosity, consider leaving it. If it is care, say that instead of asking, and let them decide what to offer.
