Worker bees switch jobs as they age: cleaner, nurse, builder, guard, forager. Nobody starts at the door.
CREATIVITY
CREATIVITY
Inside a hive the order is fixed and nobody skips it. The youngest bees clean cells, and the dangerous outward-facing jobs go to the ones who have already done everything indoors. Something similar runs through any group worth joining: the unglamorous early work is not a hazing ritual, it is where you learn what the place is made of. Impatience to reach the visible job tends to show.
Look at the stage you are in rather than the one you want, and get good at this one. Learn something here you could not learn later. Ask somebody further along what the early jobs taught them.
Which humble job came before the role you hold now?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
